SUSTAINABILITY
We built GPLXC from the ground up. Now we need to build the foundation that can carry it forward.
For nearly a decade, Gage Park Latinx Council has done what grassroots organizations are often asked to do: respond, adapt, organize, create, and keep showing up.
Since 2018, GPLXC has grown because people believed that a small, community-rooted organization could make a meaningful difference. We have built programs, relationships, creative spaces, mutual-aid networks, youth opportunities, cultural gatherings, and places for people to come together. We have continued doing this work through moments when our communities needed us most.
But passion alone cannot sustain an organization forever.
If GPLXC is going to enter its next decade, we need to build the infrastructure underneath the work: reliable unrestricted funding, stronger systems, deeper philanthropic partnerships, organizational capacity, and ultimately the reserves that allow a grassroots organization to plan for the future instead of constantly reacting to the next financial challenge.
That is what sustainability means to us.
It means being able to say yes to a community need without wondering whether we can afford to keep the lights on afterward.
It means having the freedom to think beyond the next grant cycle.
It means being able to retain the people who make this work possible, invest in our programs, respond when our community needs us, and develop new ideas without starting from zero every year.
And it means creating an organization that can still be here, not just next year, but for the young people growing up around us now and for the generations that will come after them.
Getting to ten is something we do together.
GPLXC's first decade was never built by one person, one funder, or one institution. It was built through relationships.
The next decade will be the same.
